Cute Packaging, Great Formula

4 stars out of a maximum of 5

YSL is one of my favourite high end products when it comes to makeup. I already own one of their matte lipsticks (54) and I am so in love with it that it is nearly gone. I have it for three years now and (it's probably expired) but the formula still comes off as great. So I decided to get their limited edition lipstick and ended up buying both because they were on sale. So I was super excited to get them. The formula is amazing. They are not matte, they are creamy and hydrating on the lips. However, this also means that they don't last very long. The packaging is super adorable and I cannot wait to just keep these in my permanent collection because they are just so pretty. The colour... this is where it loses a star. I got both the Dial R.E.D. and Take My Red Away hoping that they would be two different shades of red and I would at least fall in love with one of them, but sadly I fell short on both of these assumptions. They are both a pretty colour but in my opinion, they are very similar, at least on my light skin tone. They are not my favourite red lipstick - they're not even a burnt terracotta colour which is what I assumed it would be when I swatched it on my hand - instead they are like a dull red/brown which is nice, you can wear it casual or formal depending on the rest of your makeup and they are very very very hydrating and comfortable to wear but the colour isn't my cup of tea. Basically, had it not been for the packaging, I don't think I would have spent that much on the colour from the brand. I will say, however, that it is worth it splurging on their matte range, especially the dark colours, because the colour pay off is amazing on both pigmentation, colour scheme and comfort.
